Before You Buy
How many boxes does the pergola arrive in?
The pergola arrives in 5 boxes. It's worth keeping all packaging until you've checked every part against the list in the instructions, just in case anything is missing or damaged.
What tools will I need to assemble the pergola?
Most tools are included, allen keys (5mm, 6mm, and 8mm), a screwdriver, a spirit level, and spanners (M5 and M8). You'll also need some equipment not provided: gloves, a safety hat, an electric screwdriver, a ladder, a knife, a hammer, and a tape measure.
Do I need more than one person to assemble it?
The instructions don't specify a minimum number of people, but given the size and weight of the parts (beams and posts up to 3m), we strongly recommend having at least two people for safety when lifting.
Installation
Do you offer Installation?
We don’t directly, but we do recommend using our preferred installerPergolaInstallations.co.uk. Please email info@pergolainstallations.co.uk or call 01865 621457 to book your installation.
What surface does the pergola need to be installed on?
It must be assembled on a solid, level base, ideally concrete. The pergola is secured to the ground using the included expansion bolts (M8×100mm).
Does my patio need to be perfectly level?
No. Space plates are included to create a slight incline if needed. In fact, the pergola should be installed with a gentle slope in the direction of the louvres to help rainwater drain away effectively.
Can I install it on decking or grass?
The pergola is designed to be secured to concrete using expansion bolts. Installation on decking or grass is not recommended as it may not provide sufficient stability.
How do I make sure the structure is straight?
Use the included spirit level at a height of 1.4 metres above the ground to check the posts are vertical. You should also check that the diagonal measurements between opposite posts are equal (DA=DB, LA=LB, SA=SB) before securing the expansion bolts.
Can the pergola be installed against a wall?
No, you are unable to mount to an existing wall.
Professional Installation with Pergola Installations
Do you offer a professional installation service?
Yes! We've partnered with Pergola Installations, specialist outdoor structure installers, to offer a professional fitting service for your Royalcraft pergola. You can find out more and book directly at pergolainstallations.co.uk.
Who carries out the installation?
Pergola Installations use their own trained team of sub-contractors, all of whom are uniformed and work under the Pergola Installations brand. They take full responsibility for all work carried out.
How do I book?
Simply visit pergolainstallations.co.uk to get a quote and book directly with their team. You'll need to have your pergola purchased and ready to confirm sizes and any extras you've ordered.
How long does installation take?
Installation is capped at 8 hours, so in most cases your pergola will be fully fitted in a single day.
How quickly can they fit my pergola?
Once booked, the turnaround time is approximately 15 working days.
How much does installation cost?
Installation pricing is based on the size of your pergola and your location. To get an accurate quote, head to pergolainstallations.co.uk and get in touch with their team directly.
What should I have ready before the team arrives?
Your pergola should be unboxed and all parts checked against the packing list. The installation area should be cleared and accessible, and ideally you'll have a solid, level concrete base ready for the structure to be fixed to.
Do the installers clear up afterwards?
The installation team will leave the site tidy, but please note that removal of packaging and waste is not included in the service. We'd recommend having a plan for disposal of packaging ahead of the fitting day.
Assembly
How long does assembly take?
Approximately with 3-4 people it should take around 4-5 hours, though this larger model has more steps so allow extra time. Assembly time will vary depending on experience and the number of people helping. We recommend watching the assembly video (accessible via the QR code in the instruction booklet) before you begin.
How many posts does the 6x3m have?
This larger model has 6 posts in total — 4 corner posts (A), 1 middle post (B), and 1 middle post with a built-in switch (C). The middle post with the switch should be positioned at the front-centre of the structure (as defined in the assembly guide).
Does it have two crank handles?
Yes, the 6x3m has two separate louvre sections and comes with two crank handles, one for each section.
Is touch-up paint included?
Yes, a small bottle of touch-up paint is included in Box 7, which can be used to repair any minor surface damage during or after assembly.
The Louvre Roof
How do I open and close the louvre roof?
Each half of the roof is operated manually using the included crank handles. Turn counter-clockwise to open the louvres, and clockwise to close them. The louvres can be stopped and held at any angle in between, useful for controlling light and airflow.
Is the pergola waterproof?
Yes, when the louvres are fully closed the pergola is rainproof. However, during heavy rain there is a chance that rain may blow in at an angle underneath the structure, so we recommend protecting any furniture with a rainproof cover or storing cushions in a waterproof storage box just in case.
What should I do in high winds?
In extreme wind conditions, we recommend opening the louvre roof and any privacy screens/blinds fully. This allows wind to pass through the structure rather than creating resistance against it, helping to protect the pergola.
Can I place things on top of the louvre roof?
No, please do not place any objects on top of the roof louvres.
LED Lights & Solar Panel
How do I turn the lights on and off?
There are two ways to control the lights:
- Button: Press the button on the post switch to toggle power, and separate buttons for white light and warm light.
- Voice control: The lights support voice commands in English: "Switch on the White Light", "Switch on the Warm Light", and "Switch off the Light".
Does the 6x3m have two solar panels?
Yes, this model comes with two solar panel louvres (one for each half of the roof), both connected via the middle beam. No mains connection is required.
How do I maintain the solar panel?
Wipe the solar panel occasionally with a soft cloth and warm water to keep it clean and ensure maximum performance.
Aftercare & Maintenance
How do I clean the pergola?
Use a soft, non-abrasive cloth with warm soapy water to wipe down all surfaces. Avoid harsh or abrasive cleaners.
Do I need to do anything to maintain drainage?
Yes, check and clear the drainage channels regularly to remove any debris and ensure rainwater can continue to flow freely.
Can I add privacy screens later?
Yes, privacy screens are available as optional accessories. The assembly instructions include important notes to ensure the main pergola is built correctly in advance (e.g. checking post spacing and base cover direction), so it's worth reading these even if you're not adding screens straight away.
